2010 saw a total of 196 species recorded in Bedfordshire. Of this total, LGRE recorded 183, closely followed by Jim Gurney and Steve Blain on 181, Lol Carman on 180, Martin Palmer on 179 and Bob Chalkley on 177.

In 2011, a total of 452 species was recorded in Britain and Ireland of which I recorded just 69% (312); Bedfordshire recorded 204 species (of which I saw 94% at 191), Hertfordshire 192 (of which I saw 88.5% at 170) and Buckinghamshire 192 (of which I recorded just 86% at 165)

In 2012, I came fourth (on 168), following Steve Blain (177), Jim Gurney (174) and Martin Plamer (171).

GREATER SCAUP present for 5th day

TUESDAY 10 FEBRUARY

Finally caught up with the drake GREATER SCAUP today - the bird showing well at the northern section of KEMPSTON HARDWICK SOUTH (see images below); also 30 Mute Swans, 40 Greylag Geese, 96 Wigeon, 146 Tufted Duck, 39 Pochard, 72 Coot, 2 Little Grebe, 6 Great Crested Grebe and a Reed Bunting noted.

At SANDY SMITH NR, the LITTLE OWL was in its usual Oak, while at GYPSY LANE GP, 2 COMMON SHELDUCK were back on territory. No sign of the male Merlin though in an exhaustive search, but 66 Golden Plover over were noteworthy, with another 50 & 45 Lapwing on GLE PIT; otherwise just a scattering of usual wildfowl.

Several Skylark were in full song over cereal crops west of PEACOCK'S LAKE (BROOM), with 400+ Lapwing in fields on the Old Warden side of the road
